Just finished reading Damp Dogs and Rabbit Wee, by Colin (Cee Tee) Jackson, a former Bank Manager turned Dog Walker (sorry Pet Professional), based in Renfrewshire in a rural part of west Scotland.
It’s a very well written account of his transition from Bank Manager to ‘pet-care professional’, covering all the typical day to day scenarios and (mis)happenings, both humorous and sad. There are plenty of both.
It’s definitely a very honest account - the book tracks his learning curve as he grows into the role, taking on more clients and working out how to manage six very different breeds with very different characteristics / personalities on the same walk. Pragmatism and the ability to recover from tricky situations are obviously key skills in his chosen field.
While the initial decision was born of necessity arising from a (second) redundancy in 2007, his love for animals and for his new job comes through very clearly, even after eight years.
It’s an entertaining - and short - book that would make a nice Christmas present or stocking filler for anyone with Pets especially those with Dogs, or for someone thinking about going into this line of business.
Damp Dogs & Rabbit Wee is available in Paperback and Kindle versions on Amazon.
